Hello, Parents and Teachers!

As “The Traveling Teacher” and the proud principal of Silvermist Academy, I’m thrilled to connect with you through this space, where I’ll be sharing our vision, updates on programs, and the journey we’re crafting together at Silvermist. Today, I want to offer some insight into our direction, our unique philosophy, and our plans to equip our teens with skills for both today and the future.

A Vision Rooted in Leadership and Self-Discovery

Silvermist isn’t just a school—it’s a home for self-directed learning, a space that embraces the rhythms of nature, practical skills, and the tools needed for a fulfilling life. My goal as principal is to cultivate a community where learning flows organically, and each student feels empowered to grow at their own pace. I often draw inspiration from the idea of “purposeful education,” where students explore their interests through hands-on experience, find their passions, and nurture skills that truly serve them.

Our leadership philosophy at Silvermist revolves around “productive disruption.” This means challenging the traditional molds and daring to think outside the box, while keeping our roots grounded in values like empathy, adaptability, and curiosity. I am inspired to foster an environment where students feel that their voices are valued, and where I, too, can model leadership that is collaborative and forward-thinking. Together, we’re not just learning about the world; we’re shaping our role in it.

Empowering Teens with Real-World Skills

Our Silvermist Teens Program is built for young adults ready to dive deep into self-discovery, practical skills, and even entrepreneurship. We guide teens to think beyond the confines of traditional subjects by exploring experiences like running their own businesses, creating volunteer organizations, and job shadowing. They learn not only through books but through life itself—taking on challenges, engaging with local communities, and putting theory into action.

One of our new and exciting initiatives is Young Hearts Big Dreams, a youth-led volunteer organization that gives teens the chance to lead and work together to create change. Starting their own business or volunteering in leadership roles, students take ownership of their learning, bringing their unique ideas to life. By building on their own passions and strengths, they’re developing a resilience and sense of purpose that are invaluable for their futures.

Encouraging a Global Perspective

Silvermist Academy is more than a traditional school. We call ourselves a worldschool because our learning approach reflects the values and challenges of the world we live in. Our program combines the essence of a farm school—grounded in natural rhythms, practical skills, and teamwork—with opportunities for students to discover who they are as global citizens. Students can work on projects that bring communities together, learn digital storytelling to amplify their voices, and immerse themselves in cultural studies that foster a true appreciation for diversity.

I’m excited for the journey ahead as we continue to expand on our programs and vision. Whether your child is planting a garden, crafting with their hands, or preparing a business pitch, they’re not just learning—they’re building skills that will stay with them for life.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Thank you for being part of Silvermist and for entrusting us with your child’s learning journey. I’m grateful every day to walk this path with each of you. Let’s keep building a learning environment that is as alive and dynamic as the students within it.

Warmly,
Ms. Anna (The Traveling Teacher)
