Workshop

Do you want to make your child’s learning relevant?

Do you want to make life the curriculum and take the teaching out of learning?

By now we all know… The world can go through incredibly big changes in an alarmingly short period of time.
Many of the problems our kids will have to solve one day, do not even exist yet and the technology for solving those problems, have not been developed yet.

So where does this leave us as parents and teachers?
How do we prepare our children for such a future?
In a world where there are 1000s of things engaging them and demanding their attention every day, how do we engage them in their learning?
How do we get them excited about making a positive impact on the world?

Well, like farmers, we can’t predict the outcome of the crops, we can only prepare the soil.

We can’t predict the outcome of our children’s development.

We can only try to ensure that they have a desire to learn, that they can identify problems and think creatively to solve them, and that they have the tools to solve the problem or take action.

How do we do that? We Integrate our Learning and we use an Inquiry approach. It is as simple as 1, 2, 3

Benefits of the course.

We are going to show you how to use your child’s natural curiosity, current topics and real world problems as the starting point for their learning. We will also help you reduce teaching time by using an integrated approach to learning.

Who is this for ?

If you are a parent with a child who has learned to read and is now reading to learn and you want to help them gain independence in their learning, if you want to develop their higher order thinking skills and help them become real world problem solvers, then this course is for you.

What will your learning journey look like?

Day 1:

Integrated Learning

This is the most important phase since it will encourage ask us to think about learning in a slightly different way. We need to understand that the world is a set of related systems, nothing stands in isolation and the learning, therefore, needs to reflect it. We will therefore create learning experiences that combines more than one “subject”.

Day 2

Learning Rhythm and Structure

When we look at the Rhythm of learning, we look at the learning process. We will look at using Problem Solving, Learning Questions, the child’s curiosity, and Projects, as starting point.

Day 3

Reading To Learn

For children to be engaged in learning, there must be purpose, it needs to be meaningful. We will look at reading different text types, using thinking tools while we read, the purpose of reading and strategies to improve comprehension, fluency and vocabulary.

Day 4

Writing about my Learning

Same as reading, writing also has to have a purpose for children to fully invest their attention and time. So we will look at purpose (why), audience (for who) and product (what). We will also learn about the text types children need to be exposed to as well as the writing process.

Day 5

Thinking Tools and Technology

Here we will look at bringing it all together. Tools to encourage innovative and higher order thinking. We will also look at the different levels of questioning and how to use questioning to enhance thinking, not interrupt it. Finally I will share some useful and fun online platforms that are free to use and sure to engage children.
